- Ignacio Arsuaga: “CitizenGO must continue to put pressure on Netflix and show them that their Christian customers will no longer pay for services that repeatedly insult our way of life”.
MADRID, JANUARY 29TH, 2020.- The international platform, CitizenGO, delivered more than 1.5 million signatures, Tuesday, January 21, 2020, collected during their campaign “Ask Netflix to cancel film depicting Jesus as a homosexual!”.
More than one and a half million people mobilized against Netflix for broadcasting a new film that presents Jesus as a homosexual, the Virgin Mary as a prostitute and the apostles as alcoholics. The Brazilian film was presented on December 3rd as a Christmas special and is called 'A Primeira Tentaçao de Cristo' (Christ's First Temptation). In this way, and through the platform for religious freedom CitizenGO, citizens asked the multinational audiovisual content company to remove the film immediately.
“CitizenGO must continue to put pressure on Netflix and show them that their Christian customers will no longer pay for services that repeatedly insult our way of life,'' says CitizenGO`s president Ignacio Arsuaga. Netflix was warned that CitizenGO is preparing many actions, in 2020, to increase the pressure on Netflix.
CitizenGO's campaign is directed at Netflix founder and CEO Reed Hastings and in just one week garnered the support of over one million citizens. The petition created such a buzz that a judge in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Benedicto Abicari, ordered Netflix to take the film down. Sadly, a few hours later the Brazilian Supreme Court overturned the decision.
“This is why we are preparing an international "Turn Off Netflix" campaign to encourage Christians and friends of human dignity to cancel their Netflix subscriptions. Hitting a large company like Netflix in the wallet is the best way to get the attention of leaders”, concludes Arsuaga.
